no that would not make any difference what we need to do is in schools and colleges educate people about binge drinking and take them to hospitals as a national curriculum lesson to show them what drinking to excess does not only to the body after a fight but your organs after years of binge drinking, show them autopsys of liver damage, show them picture so car crash victims due to drink driving,if they see the destruction they can cause then they might learn to either drink in modration or not too drink at all.I think a lot of it is peer pressure, especially amongst men/boys, lets see who can drink the most without passing out or get drunk to impress that girl they fancy,i am not sure about the binge drinking amongst girls, they seem to want to keep up with the boys nowa days.maybe put alcohol up, where do these young people find the mney to drink so much anyway,i know older people work but how do they stil find all this money to drink day after day and night after night in pubs, even when my husband was self-employed we couldn't afford to go out more than once a month and that was for a meal as we didn't have any time away from the children at all,day or night,we didnt want to either as we are afamily that like to do thing together but i can't understand how peopel can afford to drink so much, they must spend all their wages on drinking, well the youngsters seem to.I think lessons in school in hard fact could help, see patients in intensive care from accidents caused by drinking, show them livers that have failed due to drinking, why not have these important life issues as teh national carriculum instead if music lesson, religious education, those things we can decide and lean later,we need to show youngsters
No, this would not work because then the rowdy groups who cause all the trouble would just end up drinking more faster and then still be rowdy whatever time they were let out of the pub.Partly it is the people who serve the alcohols fault as all they are interested in is making more money and instead of refusing people who have already had too much to drink they just keep on serving them. they should also stop the happy hours and the doubles for the price of singles.
No thay shouldn't. They should make their measures smaller and sell in singles only, that's help. Staggered closing times would be better. People will drink as much as they want but just do it in a shorted time frame if they close earlier.
The human fertilisation and embryology bill prohibits the transfer of the embryos to a human or animal and says they cannot be used for research beyond 14 days.
The bill, which updates 1990 laws, is at committee stage when amendments are tabled and will be subject to a final vote in coming weeks.
Two groups of scientists have already been given permission to create human-animal admixed embryos. The bill legalises their research within set guidelines.
Some researchers say allowing admixed embryos would open more avenues as they seek cures for conditions like motor neurone disease or Parkinson's. They say their creation would help ease a deficit of donated human eggs for stem cell research.
But other scientists and religious leaders say that creating human-animal embryos is unethical, and using them for research is a blind alley that won't cure disease. One Catholic cardinal called the research "Frankenstein science".
"SAVIOUR SIBLINGS"
David King, director of the campaign group Human Genetics Alert, said he feared sufferers of Alzheimer's and other diseases were being offered false hope.
"It is very sad that all these patient groups have been hyped up to believe in this stuff. They are going to be very disappointed. It is very unfair," he told reporters.
MPs also defeated an amendment which would have banned the creation of "saviour siblings" -- babies born from embryos selected through in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) because they are a tissue match for a sibling with a genetic condition.
Supporters say this will help children who cannot find matching tissue donors, but critics worry about the impact on children who have been born to improve a sibling's health, particularly if the treatment fails.
The embryology debate will continue on Tuesday when MPs will vote on moves to end the need for IVF clinics to consider a child's need for a father.
This would ease restrictions on lesbian couples and single women but opponents argue that a child needs a father.
Parliament will also vote on Tuesday on abortion laws. Some MPs are seeking to lower the 24-week time limit for abortions. Brown favours the status quo.
I do not think that it would make any difference at all. The mindless few would still cause violence. I used to be a pub manager, and for two breweries I acted as a 'cleaner' - going into rough pubs and cleaning them up. This was before the current drinking Laws, and I met a lot of violence ( in fact, in one of 'my pubs' you could tell the day of the week by what happened - Tuesdays: Glassings; Thursdays: Stabbings; Fridays and Saturdays: Fights and drugs dealing; Sundays 'Revenge attacks'. Not an easy job. Ensuring that Laws is followed would help. for example it is illegal to serve anyone you consider 'drunk/under the influence', but you get no support from the Police (too busy) or your brewery(risk to profit). I found that changing my entrance age helped (one night it was over 18's, the next over 21's, and a few times over 25's!), this curtailed some of the problems, as did placing my own (licensed) security teams, all trained in anger management, customer service, first aid, and martial arts (this was before door staff had to be trained or licensed). The violence problem is not caused by the length of time a bar is open, nor the alcohol necessarily (but certainly the abuse of it), but due to the moronic individuals that want to cause violence.
i dont think this would work either, as a few have pointed out, the violent few would fuel their selves elsewhere, and not really a good idea if our children are seeing this at earlier times. no i really dont see this working, maybe if the landlords/landladies stopped serving people who appear to have had enough, insted of keep adding to it, it would be a start. as i have seen many fights begin in my local, from people who in my opinion shouldnt still be getting served.
No its avoiding the issue and the people who want to drink will still source their alcohol from somewhere and it will just end up out on the streets being drunk. The government needs to start making harsher penalties for those who are causing problems when drunk and give the police more powers with regards to force and dealing with the issues. Violent sentences need to be increased and dealt with more harshly. They would be better to ban people from pubs who have repeat offences relating to alcohol issues and that would stop them from being in the pubs in the first place and wouldn't penalise others. Let them drink at home and destroy their own houses
Why is it that this country always try's to punish the masses for the actions of the few??
Why should I suffer and not be able to stay out late, just because a few scum bags cant control their selves.
this also in my opinion falls into the same catagory of making alcohol more expensive to stop so called binge drinking. Again, why the hell should I have to break the bank to have a night out, just because a few people in the country cant control how much they drink?
This counry and government seem to have little clue about the general public, and seem to constantly concentrate on the small percentage of people that cant control themselves, and instead of dealing with them directly, they choose this ridiculas stratergy of punishing the entire country and population with threats of higher drink prices, an end to happy hours and restrictions on drinking hours. Why? because they are to lazy to deal with the problem directly.
