I saw a four-year old on my street dancing and smacking her arse like one of the "sexy" music video bitches. I remember being a teen in the 90s reading more magazine and thinking that shagging in the toilets at a club looked exciting from reading the stories. Also, young teens are having performance anxiety of a kind from watching the unrealistic sex scenes on tv and thinking their sex lives should be like this - when the reality is more comical with jiggly bits and elbows on your hair. I imagine there'll be a turnaround before my babies grow up because there's such a belief that what's on tv is true-to-life and it's becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy with people identifying with soaps for example and it justifying giving in to temptation to have affairs and sleep around a lot etc. There needs to ba a massive overhaul of sex and relationships education in schools as well as a curb on the pre-watershed telly to combat it - although they have it all at their fingetips on the net as well, so it's impossible to shield them from everything. it's a very scary world.
I partly agree with the three opinions but it isn't always as easy a sit looks, yes you can put a child lock on sky and i have for my eldest, you have to put a pin code in for say anything that starts at 9pm or whicever time you want on whichever channel you want,i do mine for all sky channels from 8pm,my son then needs a pin to watch the programme,if i think it is suitable i let him watch it.Bedtimes aren't always that easy to inforce, yes an di know i am going to get loads of opinions to the contrary,my eldest has never gone to bed early and i have never managed to get him to bed before 9pm unless he is ill and then he sleeps from 4pm after school until the next day,we have tried everything, yes everything, doctors, school, social workers involved,we can't smack,we used to use bribery or things like that but he is like my nan he doesn't need much sleep, but that apart you can ring sky and they will talk you thru the child locks,i have seen part nudity and awful language from the soaps, they also get bad language from schools,as my son has come home with a few choice words.I personally don't like sex on t.v. i am not frigid but i believe a film doesn't need mindless sex in it unless it plays a proper part in the film, which most of the time it doesn't,but the movie makers know that sex sells so people will watch it.Children have different bedtimes across the country according to family values etc.At the end you must try to take control,i all ow my son to watch say kissing,he doesn't watch anymore than that as i won't watch it either as it isn't neede in 99% of the time.If this seems a little bit weird it is 1am in the morning, and i can't sleep as i am in too much pain and a doctor who came out at 7pm last night said a doctor would help me wih more pain relief at 12.00 midnight, did he? NO,so i am up watching Big Cat Diary and mopst probably talking to myself on Toluna Night BM3
I agree with you Ice road trucker... the tv comes with an off button, use it. My kids are all teenagers now and still go to be at 8:30pm on school nights, the weekends are a bit different. Why are younger kids up at that time anyway??? We as parents have to set the example for our kids. I don't watch thing that have adult content in them that way they don't. So if you don't like it turn it off or change the channel.
I don't see much nudity before the 9pm time slot but then maybe I am watching different channels. I was never allowed to watch tv programmes that had much nudity in them as a child but I think in this day and age kids see so much of it regardless that I am not sure that tv is the only source. Most of the movies now feature nudity or suggested nudity and that includes a large number of family films also I think there is more nudity and suggestive outfits and actions on most music videos than there are on tv programs. If kids are seeing it on tv before 9pm then are the same kids allowed to watch the latest Britney music video as where is the difference, at least it a program the nudity is normally shown in some context other than you can get semi naked to dance. Willl now be watching for nudity prior to 9pm to see if I can find any - but I only have digital channels so may not be successful.
I agree with the two people below, I dont normally see anything that bad before the nine o clock watershed though i have sometimes seen an unsuitable trailer round tea time...and of course the soaps are all on before the watershed, and easties, probably the worst offender, is also on on a Sunday afternoon! It is really up to the parents to monitor all this anyway, and i am sure these days, specially with the multi channels, the safestand easiest way is to keep the box off until the kids are in bed, have conversation and story books instead ( and no tellys in their bedroom )
I appreciate what you are saying in this and agree with you that some channels do show too much of this before the watershed, including languague which is inappropriate for younger children. I must say, and I don't know which channels you have been watching before 9pm, I have not seen nudity on them before this time. However, it is possible to get parental control on TV through your sattelite or cable connection. If you don't have this, then there is always the usual, tried and tested method of turning the tv off.
