 | | | Yes | | is this feedback useful?Author's rating | | by Eckybun on 12/05/2008 | | When I was a child, my mother was a single parent who worked hard and we didn't have a car or holidays because we couldn't afford them. Yet there were people living round the corner from us who never worked and had holidays and a car and pretty much everything else you can imagine. You should be given enough money to provide you with the basics to live on, and if you have kids some vouchers so that they can enjoy life a little more, like free swimming at local pools. You should not have enough money to drink, smoke, take holidays and run a car. If you can afford to do those things then the government is clearly giving you too much money and they need to reduce your benefits. Oh, and I have experience of living on benefits and I could never have afforded any of these things. | | | 0 people found this opinion useful | | 0 people found this opinion not useful |

 | | | No | | is this feedback useful?Author's rating | | by shaziy on 25/04/2008 | | Who is this aimed at? Are we saying that if you are on benefits you should not be allowed a car, to smoke or drink? I think the notion of offering vouchers to the value of £’s may force a minority of people who would not otherwise spend their money on say gas over food/ telephone etc. But ultimately if somebody is determined to spend their money on something they shouldn’t i/e drink, drugs, cigarettes they will find a way to do this by trading vouchers, selling them at a discount and creating a black market. Also for the children of benefit parents is it right to stigmatise them in this way by forcing them
I disagree with a certain “benefit system lifestyle”, as the wife swap couple showed, but on this will not tackle that problem but create one for another section of society who we should be helping not shunning.
