I have read in several places that opinions need to have a minimum of 80 words in order to qualify for points. However, I also see that lots of people just respond with short often one word answers. I have to wonder, why bother? If it is true that there is an 80 word minimum, then why don't people write 80 words? I also see that there is an option when creating a new opinion to select a minimum number of words per opinion. Why would I want to select less than 80? Can some experienced person please help me out here and shed some light on the subject?
Yes, to get points in an opinion you do have to write 80 words or more. Make sure you do as the people at toluna have to read all the comments and count all the worsd as too many people were trying to con the system by writng a load of gobbledygook and trying to earn points that way. You also get points if you complete surveys that toluna send to your inbox, these normally have lots of points attached to them. Also, if you do the sponsored polls you get 15 points for every one that you complete.
sometimes folk want to feel included and are interested but maybe dont feel they have the necessary skills to write 80 words. This can apply in most areas of life - for instance, I am very unconfident about my driving abilities and therefore i dont drive, dont put myself under that pressure, BUT i enjoy the experience of going for a drive, enjoying the ride, with someone else at the wheel - and simialrly these peole may not be interested so much in making big points and earning rewards - for them they enjoy observing more rather than participating.
You only get 100 points for writing an opinion of 80 words or more, as it says in the FAQ, but I think maybe a lot of people don't bother to look around the site and find this out when they join as they're often posting questions about how to earn points or when will they get them. Either that or they're only here because they want to join in for the fun of it and aren't interested in earning points or rewards. Enjoy both sides of it myself - reading/writing opinions and earning a few points. But someone here said Toluna might be changing the way they award points for opinions in the near future - might be based more on how many other users mark your opinions useful - for example, in future you'll only get the 100 points if maybe three or more others mark it useful.
Some people do not come on here just to use the site as a way of getting points - I admit that I try if possible to always write at least 80 words because as you say then I will get awarded for doing this - however occassionally you see an opinion that just needs a yay or a nay answer so there is not really much point of just waffling on and on about nothing in order to get 100 points is there! I do think that sometimes people who put there minimum number of words at 80 sometimes end up losing out on the amount of people responding to their opinion - because as I say not everyone wants to always write 80 words and find it difficult to do so!!! SO you are wasting your time setting your limit at that - not always but most of the time people see 80 words and think to hell with it I'm not going to even bother! I do!!!! in fact you're lucky that I had enough to say about this one otherwise I wouldn't have bothered nyself!!! lol valid opinion though from you ice queen! keep them coming! (maybe only do a 10 word limit though in future !!! ha ha xx)
do people who just copy the same words over and over and over again get points if they go over 80 words or is someone sitting there weeding them out so that the cheats will never prosper as they say . Is it worth me waffling on to see if i will get points if this little opinion goes over 80 words or shall i stop and see if this question is dropped into the rubbish bin and no points will ever be seen from my rantings
I'm sure there are many people who are here not just becasue of the points. They are here to voice their opinions on certain issues, creating interesting opinions to start us off and perhaps points to them are just secondary. If you notice hard enough, there are very faithful participants on this website and their answers are often not more than 80 words. But their opinions are sometimes very valuable and we definitely able to learn a thing or two from them. If Toluna was to change the way they award points, then I sure hope pp who are not here to read other peoples opinion to not mark them useful or not, as I realised a few people mark most opinions on those they created not useful. Give smoe credit to people who take time to write proper opinions.
a lot of people dont come on here to earn points or vouchers, most people i think just like to communicate with others by answering polls or putting their opinions across, i must say that i have only written a few times 80 words or more, mostly because i really cant think of anything to say half the time. If you create a new opinion, the choice is given to you to select a minimum words response from others, its up to the person adding their opinion to your topic if they want to write more, if they do, they will earn points, not you. Personally i just like reading peoples opinions on things & getting my take across.
I try to use 80 words to get the points but then that prevents me commenting on some topics which have a one word answer like - which flavour of Walkers Crisps do you prefer? That said I'm not very often short of a word or two to say on any topic and even without the points limit I would be the sort of person to go on a bit. What I'd like to know is why they give points for opinions? Obviously they sell the sponsored poll results on to companies and the same with the surveys - what benefit do the opinions give?
