Blasphemy Law, Scrap or Keep

Blasphemy Law, Scrap or Keep
kezab
Blasphemy laws are being discussed by the government and the Church of England. Do you feel that the law is outdated or should we keep the law active?

scrap it noone takes any notice and there are more important things to worry about, otherwise we will all be caught up with watching political correctness even more than we do now

Keep and extend to include all religions. It is unfair that the UK blasphemy laws do not cover all religions, regardless of your view on religion generally.

Blasphemy law was originaly set up to protect the Christian faith only with many Christian lobby groups wanting to maintain the law to this day, along with some Muslim groups wanting the law to cover their own faith also. Any law that has the intention of curtailing the individual persons freedom of speech can only be a bad law. The controversial Racial and Criminal Hatred Act 2006 attempts to cover all aspects of religious hatred, even though the act in itself is inherently flawed, and was produced as a knee-jerk reaction to recent terrorist atrocities committed in the name of religion. Right to free speech under the European Convention on Human Rights, which is now part of British law, guarantees freedom of religion and expression. Therefore any other laws governing the activities of religious organisations are purely a means by which our 'beloved', non-reactionary government can limit the freedom of ourselves. Any law that prevents free speech is a law that encourages bigotry.

the way people talk now i did not think there was a blspheme law. It is possible to talk without taking The Lords name in vain and also the foul language that has become every day talk is dreadful there are still some of us who show respct to others

Yes scrap it - all religion should be criticised and mocked freely with words but not subject to restriction or violence. if a fool believes let them believe but tell them why it is foolish.

Our scripture has been rewritten so many times I don't know why we bother to judge any opinion. I do not believe in fairytales anyway
